Warm Springs, GA
Instructor:  Marti Jeffers
Tuition:  $795

Join Marti  for four and a half days in some of our most favorite places to shoot in Georgia. Callaway Gardens is a place of arresting beauty. Warm Springs is the home of The Little White House,  Franklin Roosevelt's home in Georgia, as well as the charming Warm Springs Village. This location, along with inspirational instruction, makes for an ideal workshop in some of Georgia's most stunning locations.
Located in the southern foothills of Georgia's Appalachian Mountains, Callaway Gardens, a 13,000 acre sanctuary, is a photographer's paradise. Marti guides the workshop  participant through such areas of the Gardens as the amazing Azalea Bowl, a 40-acre garden with more than 3,400 hybrid azealeas, erupting in a palette of pinks, reds and white each spring.  This is a model location for landscape, macro and impressionistic photography. The Overlook Azalea Garden is another spectacular area for photography.  Other areas of the garden that we may visit include the Sibley Horticultural Center, a five-acre conservatory that includes a 22-foot indoor waterfall, the Birds of Prey exhibit, as well as the famed Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center.  The Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel, a Gothic-style chapel featuring stained-glass windows, set in the forest, is not to be missed.
Warm Springs, a hidden jewel in central Georgia,  is the ideal place to host this workshop. Only 15 minutes from Callaway, Warm Springs Village is lined with quaint streets, courtyards and 100 year old restored buildings. Warm Springs, with it's elevation, boasts the "best sunrises and sunsets in Georgia".  Franklin Roosevelt's Little White House, the place he came to soak in the hot springs for his polio, is here. Nearby is the FDR  State Park that includes spectacular outcroppings, waterfalls and views. The Red Oak Creek covered bridge, still open to traffic is located nearby.
Leading this workshop, Marti will introduce the participants to various ways of shooting in Callaway Gardens, including traditional landscape, macro, alternative methods of shooting including various ways to abstract a scene and methods to create impressionistic images.    We will also shoot landscapes, architecture and nature in and around Warm Springs,  the Red Oak Covered Bridge, the FDR State Park as well as photography in the historic Warm Springs Village. Marti looks forward to introducing you to these hidden treasure in their home state.
The general schedule for this workshop consists of morning shooting sessions, classroom presentations and image critique sessions, digital darkroom techniques for post processing your images, a post-processing lab where Marti will assist you with selection of your images for critique and help with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.  We will also take advantage of the late afternoon and evening light to continue our shooting sessions.
This workshop also includes an annual pass to Callaway Gardens for each participate.
This workshop is limited to 12 participants to allow for maximum individual instruction for participants.

This workshop is new on our schedule for 2011 and is now completed.  Here are some things the participants of the 2011 Callaway Gardens workshop had to say:
"Callaway Gardens and the surrounding areas are a delightful place to photography and can keep photographers busy for days.  I enjoyed the location as much as the camaraderie of my fellow students.  Marti is a delightful photography workshop leader.  It takes a special person to lead a group of diverse personalities, skill levels and interests through five days of lecture, critiques and hands-on experiences.  Her teaching style works well for beginners as well as advanced photographers by presenting the material in a way that isn't over the head of the beginner yet adds information to supplement the more advanced student's skillset.  She challenges our artistic as well as our emotional approach to photography."   Marcia, Warm Springs and Callaway Gardens, 2011
"I almost cancelled attending this workshop as it approached.   WHAT A MISTAKE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN!! This was one of the best workshops I have ever attended.  Marti made certain that everything ran smoothly while providing some of the best classroom and critique sessions possible.  My skill levels improved greatly.  But more importantly, I experienced a new sense of wonderment about the joy of photography.   As Marti reminded us, enjoying photography is really a reflection of enjoying and engaging in life in general.   Thanks to her, Lori and all the wonderful participants I was able to regain a renewed appreciation of all around me and all I have to be thankful for.  You all have my unbounded and eternal gratitude."   Mark,  Warm Springs and Callaway Gardens, 2011
"Recipe for a Fantastic "Workshop Cake:
Take one part Inspiration (Marti's lectures, example images and instructions; review and critique sessions; assistant Lori and the workshop participants).
Add one part Opportunity (Callaway Gardens).
Add another part Practice (shooting with Marti and Lori available for help).
Add a final part of Post Process Instruction (our lab sessions).
Mix together for 5 days.  Bake enthusiastically in the Oven of Creativity.  Frost with Icing of take-home workbook and follow-up pdf's of additional instruction.   This makes for one of the tastiest "Workshop Cakes" I"ve ever experienced."    Flo, Warm Spring and Callaway Gardens, 2011
"This was the first workshop I have ever attended.  I had no idea what to expect and I didn't know anything about Marti Jeffers.  I had received an email from a local photography instructor about the workshop and decided at the last minute to go because of the location.  I'M SO GLAD I DID! I have been a wedding and portrait photographer for the past 6 years and I have a commercial photography degree.  I had never touched a macro lens before this workshop!  At Marti Jeffers' Callaway Gardens Workshop I learned something new every day and came away with no only new techniques, but new friends.  I gained so much from the one-on-one instruction, the classroom sessions, critiques and other participants.  I appreciate Marti's caring, enthusiastic attitude and willingness to freely share her knowledge and experience.   It was a treat to spend time with other photographers in such a beautiful place.  I hope to attend more workshops in the future."    Margie, Warm Springs and Callaway Gardens, 2011
